Your doctor has ordered a scan to evaluate the function of your stomach. Please follow these simple instructions so that we may best serve you.
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the evening prior to your appointment. You may bring your medications with you to take at the time of your appointment.
- For insulin-dependent patients only: Please bring your insulin with you to the appointment and adjust your morning dose as needed for the prescribed meal listed below.
- Do not smoke 4 hours prior to your appointment, or through the duration of your study.
- Report to the Radiology department 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to allow time for check-in.
- This study takes 4.5 hours to complete.
- Upon arrival into the Nuclear Medicine Department, you will be given a meal of scrambled egg beaters, 2 pieces of toast, 2 packets of jelly, and a glass of water. The egg beaters will contain a small amount of radioactive material which will allow us to image your stomach after you ingest the meal. You will not taste this material, or feel any side-effects. After you finish eating, we will take an image of your stomach with you standing in between our camera. The camera will not touch you or make any noise during the acquisition. We will take a 1-minute image every hour, on the hour, for up to 4 hours.
