Your doctor has ordered a bone scan to evaluate bone functions. Please follow these simple instructions so that we may best serve you.
- There is no fasting required for this exam.
- Report to the Radiology department 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to allow time for check-in.
- You will receive an injection of radioactive material that will be absorbed by your bones. Depending on which type of bone scan your Doctor has requested, we may acquire images immediately following your injection.
- The radioactive material is absorbed into your bones 2.5-3 hours post injection. The technologist will inform you of the time to return for your delayed images. You may leave the facility in between your appointment times. If you are staying on-site for the duration of your study, please consider bringing something to read or watch while you wait. You may also bring something to eat if you desire.
- Delay images take approximately 45 minutes to complete. Please wear comfortable clothing without too much metal. You will lie down under our scanner for the duration of the scan. A pillow will be placed under your knees for comfort, and a warm blanket may be provided to you if you are cold.
- You are able to resume normal activities following your exam.
